SAARC LITERARY AWARDS

 

 

The First-ever SAARC LITERARY AWARDS are being given by our Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature to eminent writers in the SAARC Region, since 2000.

A high-powered Advisory Committee scrutinizes hundreds of eminent writers every year, and selects writers for the Awards.

The '2007 SAARC Literary Award' of one lakh rupees was offered to one of the most eminent writers of the SAARC Region : Ms. MAHASVETA DEVI, who gracefully accepted it.

For 2007-2008, the following Advisory Committee will be taking the final decision, after our National Chapters in all the 8 SAARC Countries send in their recommendations. Recommendations are however collected from independent sources as well.

For '2008 SAARC Literary Award,' the high-powered Advisory Committee of the most prominent writers and scholars of the Region has been constituted.                      INDIA :

    1. Ms. Mahasveta Devi, eminent Bangla Fiction Writer.
       
    2. Mr. Khushwant Singh, eminent Fiction Writer, Journalist, Historian Columnist.
       
    3. Mr. V. P. Singh, eminent Poet and Former Prime Minister of India.
       
    4. Dr. Abid Hussain, eminent Scholar and Economist.
       
    5. Mr. M. T. Vasudevan Nair, eminent Malayalam Writer, Cultural Activist.
       
    6. Prof. Mushirul Hasan, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia University, eminent Historian and Author of several books.
       
    7. Prof. Indira Goswamy, eminent Assamese Writer and Peace Activist.

    10. Mr. Intizar Hussain, eminent Urdu Fiction Writer.
       
    11. Ms. Kishwar Naheed, well-known Urdu Poet. Widely acclaimed and honoured by National and International Awards.
       
    12. Mr. Asad Mohammad Khan, eminent Urdu Short Story Writer.
       
    13. Dr. Syed Akhtar Hussain Akhtar, Punjabi Writer, Editor 'Lehran', eminent Literary Scholar.
       
    14. Dr. Shahzad Qaiser, eminent Writer and Scholar.
       
    15. Mr. Hamid Mir, eminent Scholar and Internationally Reputed Journalist.

      BANGLADESH :
       
    16. Prof. Anisuzzaman, Chairman of Bangla Academy. Besides being one of the most outstanding Poets of Bangladesh, he is an acclaimed Scholar too. Has been teaching Literature in Chicago, London, Bangladesh. Has authored many books and has received many National and International Awards.
       
    17. Ms. Selina Hussain, the well-known Fiction Writer.
       
    18. Prof. Kaiser Haq, eminent Poet, Literary Critic and Translator.
       
    19. Mr. Khademul Islam, eminent Writer, Journalist, and Literary Editor of 'The Daily Star.'
