Helping Traditional Craftsmen

Poor craftsmen engaged in traditional crafts like Zardozi and Phulkari embroidery, tribal Godna of Bihar and tribal sculpture of Bastar are being helped by the Academy. Attempts are being made to make these groups self-sustainable, and to link them directly with the market. We also keep offering cooperation to NGOs and women’s groups who are engaged in helping craftspersons. Delhi Crafts Council, in collaboration with our Academy, regularly holds workshops for craftspersons in our premises.

Holding Fine Arts Classes

Regular subsidized classes in classical dance, ceramics and sculpture, theatre and aesthetic awareness, pranayam and yoga are conducted by eminent artists like Leela Samson and Aditi Rao (Bharatanatyam), Neeraj Bakshi (Painting), Rajinder Nath and Reoti Saran Sharma (Theatre), Hemant and Vaishali (Kathak) and aesthetic awareness courses by different scholars. All these courses are free for the students from the disadvantaged sections of society.

Research in Cultural Areas

The Academy takes keen interest in organising surveys, researches, seminars and workshops on relevant literary, art, socio-cultural, gender-oriented and development issues. It has already funded research projects on contemporary Indian art, contemporary women artists, communal interpretation of medieval Indian history and gender-oriented studies.
