The multifarious activities of the Academy include the following
:
Promoting Literary Interaction
The
Academy has been promoting literary interaction in the SAARC region by
organising seminars, researches, translations, publications and literary
events. It has initiated a monthly baithak of writers - ‘Dialogue’ - which
is held on the last Saturday of every month. Started in the mid-50s, the
programme continues without a break. It gives a much-needed place to
writers writing in different Indian languages and writers from the
neighbouring South Asian countries to interact. Taking cue from
‘Dialogue’, it organized the first-ever Conference of Indian and Pakistani
Writers in 1987. From there, it graduated to organizing SAARC Writers
Conferences in which writers from all the seven SAARC countries met,
interacted and deliberated on issues affecting writers and literary
writing in the region. So far seven SAARC Conferences have been held at
New Delhi, Kathmandu, Dhaka, New Delhi, Kathmandu, Male and Kathmandu and
the Eighth SAARC Writers Conference is due in Pakistan in December
2003.
Initiating Cultural Activities
The
Academy is the only cultural institution in Delhi which is an open house
for all creative people who want to have literary gatherings, rehearsals,
book releases, gatherings of painters, slide shows, talks, etc. It has
been locating and promoting upcoming talent in painting, music, dance,
sculpture, theatre, ceramics, creative writing and translations by
offering assistance and organizing their performances, exhibitions, book
releases,workshops, etc.
