Academy of Fine Arts and Literature




The Academy of Fine Arts and Literature (AFAL) was set up in 1975 by a group of prominent writers, painters, journalists, academicians, scholars, theatre activists and culture enthusiasts for promoting visual and performing arts, encouraging literary interactions of writers writing in different Indian languages and those from the neighbouring countries of South Asia, promoting modern art forms and traditional crafts, imparting education in different forms of visual and performing arts and initiating and sustaining community-based social work benefiting the vulnerable and marginalised sections of society. These activities are being conducted in the Academy’s aesthetically designed premises at 4/6, Siri Fort Institutional Area,New Delhi-110049. To accommodate these multifarious activities, the Academy has two large art galleries, a library-cum-reading room, an amphitheatre for plays and poetry, dance hall,a conference hall for cultural gatherings, a large hall, a hall for theatre rehearsals and a women’s empowerment centre.
