Meeting with Members of the Bangladesh National Centre of Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature.

On 23rd January, the delegates met the members of the Bangladesh National Centre of the Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature at Xindian Restaurant in Dhaka.

The meeting resulted in several important decisions :

1. Enlargement of the scope of the National Centre so as to be comprised of mediapersons, academicians and young writers.

2. Four eminent writers of Bangladesh were selected for participation in the Pakistan Conference. The writers unanimously selected were :

I. Prof. Anisuzzaman
II. Ms. Tasmina Hossain
III. Mr. Syed Shamsul Haq
IV. Ms. Zobaida Gulshan Aara

3. It was also decided that women writers must be included within the Bangladesh National Centre as women writings, sensitivities and expressions were an essential component of Bangla Literature.

4. Ms. Ajeet Cour also suggested that the Bangladesh National Centre work proactively to raise funds for reciprocal exchange programs and also negotiate with prospective sponsors and arrange funding for travel expenses for SAARC Writers Conferences.

5. It was unanimously decided that a SAARC Writers Conference would be held in Bangladesh in mid- 2005.

6. The writers offered to collect latest writings - (both of prose and poetry) of young Bangla Writers and send them to the Foundation of SAARC writers and Literature for the constantly updated website, Anthologies and forthcoming Journal, titled
'Beyond Borders'.
