With the easing of tensions and the beginning of the process of peace and reconciliation between the two countries, the ambience for holding such a conference got created and the Foundation, working within the short time and resources at its command, went ahead with the holding of this historic Indian-Pakistani Writers Conference.
For the conference of Indian and Pakistani writers, a delegation of 10 Indian writers led by Ajeet Cour, noted Punjabi writer and President of the Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature, visited the two cities of Lahore and Islamabad in Pakistan.
It may be recalled that the Foundation and its parent organization - the Academy of Fine Arts and Literature - organized the FIRST-EVER INDIAN-PAKISTANI WRITERS’ CONFERENCE in September 1987 in the Triveni Auditorium of New Delhi.
The Conference in Pakistan was the second in the series.
