The Foundation of Saarc Writers and Literature of the Academy of Fine Arts and Literature, organised the four day SAARC Writers Conference in Kathmandu from 21st to 24th November, 2000 as a follow-up literary initiative to the First-Ever SAARC Writers Conference held in New Delhi in April, 2000. The major ideas evolved during the Second Conference were very profound and were developed through several rounds of discussions at which writers from different countries exchanged their views.

The writers came to the conclusion that the major thrust areas for more meaningful interaction among the creative fraternity are :

a) Extensive translations of literary works for forging links between the SAARC countries and thereby contributing to the growing richness of contemporary creative consciousness.

b) Establishing Special Departments in the major Universities in the SAARC Region for comparative and extensive studies of literature of all the seven SAARC countries.

c) The writers adopted a Declaration emphasizing all these important thrust areas, besides unanimously vowing to uphold the importance of Literary Dialogue and Interaction in the SAARC Region for the realisation of peace, unity and harmony through literary exchanges.
