The Eleventh SAARC Writers' Conference

The three day SAARC Writers Conference brought together eminent writers, poets and intellectuals from all the countries of South Asia including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and for the first time delegates from Sudan and Thailand as well.
The deliberations at the three-day Conference held through five thematic sessions, three creative reading sessions and the Inaugural and Valedictory Functions were structured along thematic lines. There were in all FIVE broad themes and all the discussions and readings from writers' works were based on the given theme. In general, while one session was devoted to a discussion of the theme, the next session was used for readings from the creative works of the writers, especially poetry. Impromptu poetry readings, however, continued till midnight over dinners and in informal meetings among writers. And fiction reading too.
