LAHORE: Zobaida Jalal Chairs the SAARC Writers Conference at Alhamra

INDIAN-PAKISTAN
WRITERS CONFERENCE

10th SAARC Writers Conference, Lahore

The 10th SAARC Writers Conference was held in Lahore from the 12th to the 14th of March 2004 in the historic and beautiful city of Lahore in Pakistan. Representatives from all the seven SAARC countries - Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan - attended. It was for the very first time that the conference was scheduled in Pakistan and was the result of efforts initiated as far back as 1987 by the Punjabi poet and President of the Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature, New Delhi, Ms Ajeet Cour. Her untiring crusade to ensure meaningful dialogue between writers of Pakistan and India with the central objective of brining closer bonds between the two nations saw fruition in the Lahore conference where writers from all seven SAARC countries came together to forge a zone of peace and amity in the region.
